Find Used Toyota Tacomas in Utah
The Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Hilux, are compact pickup
trucks built and marketed by the Toyota Motor
Corporation. The Hilux name was adopted as a replacement
for the Stout in 1969, and remains in use worldwide. In
North America, the Hilux name was retired in 1976 in
favor of Truck, Pickup Truck, or Compact Truck, until it
was renamed the Tacoma in 1995. In 1984, the Trekker,
the camper version of the Hilux, was changed to the
4Runner in North America and Australia, and as the Hilux
Surf in Japan. The product lines for North America and
elsewhere diverged at that point and in many cases on a
year for year basis the vehicles sold in North America
only resemble the Hilux, with major mechanical/chassis
differences.
Utah Used Toyota Trucks
The Toyota Tacoma is a compact pickup truck produced and
manufactured by the Toyota Motor Company since 1995. The
second-generation Tacoma was Motor Trend Magazine's
Truck of the Year for 2005. The Toyota Tacoma is named
after the City of Tacoma, Washington, USA.
At the 2004 Chicago Auto Show, Toyota unveiled a bigger
and more powerful Tacoma. This new Tacoma was available
in eighteen different configurations, which included
three cab configurations, four transmissions, two
engines, and two bed lengths. The Tacoma's 4.0-liter
1GR-FE V6 took the place of the original 3.4-liter V6.
It produces 236 horsepower (176 kW) and 266 foot-pounds
of torque. The smaller, but all-new 2.7-liter 2TR-FE
4-cylinder alternative in less expensive models is rated
at 159 hp (119 kW) and 180 lb/ft (244 N/m). During
Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom,
multiple Toyota Tacomas have been observed in use by
Special Forces units of the U.S. Army.
The Tacoma and Hilux share the same body, but the
chassis is significantly different in the Tacoma and
believed to be much weaker. The gasoline engine used is
significantly quieter than the diesel engines used in
the HMMWV. The front headlights have been modified to
work in IR, in order to work with night vision. Toyota
sells around 190,000 Tacomas annually. In 2005 Toyota
Motor Corporation sold 189,987 Tacomas, better than any
other compact pickup in its class. Tacoma sales make
about 10 percent of Toyota Motor Corporations annual
sales. "With rising gas prices gluing full-size trucks
to dealer lots, folks who still need a pickup's utility
should find that the midsize and more fuel-efficient
2009 Toyota Tacoma is an ideal alternative." says
Edmunds From March 2006 to March 2007 Tacoma sales have
steadily risen. "The base price for the 2009 Toyota
Tacoma is a mere $15,170. That's almost $10,000 below
class average. The fact is, as the sales numbers attest,
if you want a small pickup and willing to give up the
room, horsepower and hauling capacity of the bigger
trucks, the Tacoma is hard to beat. " adds
The Auto Channel In March 2006 Toyota sold 9,185 (4x2)
Tacomas, in March 2007 Toyota sold 10,851 (4x2) Tacomas.
Consumer reports show an increase in sales (up 7.6
percent from August 2006).
